07 Aug 2014 Review advert bookings now being taken

Even though some of you are still in summer show season mode, the Society has reached that time of year when the focus turns to producing The Review and believe it or not, some pages are already sitting ready and waiting for the design team to start work on it!Bookings are now being taken for advertising space, so although you might not know what you want going on your adverts just yet, it's a good idea to get the space booked.

06 Aug 2014 Late registration of bull calves

The Society allows bull calves which have been intimated to be registered up to six months of age for the normal fee of £25 + VAT.  From six months to one years old the fee is £50 + VAT.  Please note that this applies to bull calves only and does not apply to heifers which should be registered within two months of birth.

Do you have bulls coming to the October Stirling Sale?Please call Caroline at the office and tell her which bulls you are entering and we will send out the DNA kits in advance.  We always struggle to get the samples back in time check the pedigree and the myostatin status prior to the catalogue being printed.

05 Aug 2014 Mohill to host All Ireland championships August 17th

The Irish Aberdeen Angus Association is all set for the 87th annual Mohill Show will this year will host the 2014 Growvite All-Ireland Championship on Sunday 17th August.The prestigious competition which carries a prize fund in excess of €3500, was officially launched by Ciaran Reidy, Lough Rynn Castle Hotel, Mack Crowe and John Tait, president, Irish Aberdeen Angus Association, along with sponsor Brendan Crowe of Tulivin Laboratories/Univet Ireland Ltd.Irish Aberdeen Angus Cattle Society president John Tait said: ”The All-Ireland final is celebrating its 27th Anniversary, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank Tulivin Laboratories/Univet Ireland Ltd for its continued sponsorship of the competition."Judge for this year’s show is Aberdeen Angus Cattle Society president Victor Wallace, who runs the noted Baronagh herd based at Garvagh in County Londonderry.The schedule for the County Leitrim-based show features 11 classes for bulls, cows, heifers and calves.

09 Jul 2014 DNA tissue sampling - your questions answered

Following the Society’s press launch of its ground breaking DNA initiative, the Society has received a number of enquiries from members as to how it will operate and what they will need to do.  In response to enquiries, Assistant Breed Secretary Neil Caul has updated the previous information on the website and offers the following: Do I have to sample all calves?  It is proposed that a tissue sample will be taken from every pedigree calf when it is tagged and sent to Identigen, the Society’s service provider, at regular intervals for storage.

20 Jun 2014 Aberdeen-Angus team wins interbreed native group at Royal Highland

The representative Aberdeen-Angus team in today’s native interbreed group competition found favour with judge Friar Thomson, Forfar, to win the title ahead of some stiff competition from the Highland team. Their winning group was headed by the breed champion from yesterday, Rawburn Jester Eric J034 from Alistair Clark and family, the reserve breed champion Haughton Laura L026 from Whittaker and Co Farms and the first prize winning Cardona Evon M804 from Donald Rankin.
