Quality on offer at CCM Airdale Angus Herd on-farm production sale

22.05.2024

The countdown is on to the 7th annual production sale of 74 head of pedigree Aberdeen-Angus cattle on behalf of the long-established, award winning Airedale herd run by David and Judith Isherwood, and son Josh.

The sale, on Saturday, June 1st, will again be conducted by CCM Auctions and in conjunction with the Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society, though this year will be staged at the family’s own Airedale House Farm, Kildwick, a move designed to give potential purchasers an opportunity to view the ring-fenced environment where the cattle have been raised on 117 acres of meadow and pasture land alongside the Leeds-Liverpool Canal.

On offer from the Hi Health status herd, first registered in 2012/13 and now comprising 190 head, is a comprehensive range of cows with calves at foot, the opening nine lots to be split in the ring and sold separately, along with nine yearling bulls, plus embryos and semen.

Two solid sires, both with championship-winning backgrounds, figure prominently in the breeding. One is the herd’s main stock bull, Shadwell Rock ‘N’ Roll X245, himself a top-rated son of Shadwell Evolution T003, Angus National Champion 2019, whose own dam, Evora M618, from the highly successful Rose family, also stood National Champion in 2014.

The second sire is Shadwell Finnigan X262, Champion at the South Eastern Primestock Fayre 2021, by Carruthers Grenadier W797, Royal Highland Show Champion 2019, with progeny selling to £14,000.

Of the yearling bulls, a particular herd favourite is the Rock ‘N’ Roll son, Airedale Early Riser Z839, while also in the sale are two 2023-born Weeton Black Brooke 539 sired sons, a bull that has worked well at Airedale, with his daughters, much admired as maiden heifers last year, currently being calved. One, Airedale Mission Bell Z818, is described as a young bull with great potential.

“Our breeding policy at Airedale is to fill each animal’s pedigree with a list of prominent dams and sires, verified by a look through the family trees. We believe these cattle will go on to do well for their new owners and in turn further promote our own Airedale Angus brand.” explained David Isherwood, whose family also runs Isherwood Butchers in Silsden, where prime beef from the herd remains in great demand.

The sale is scheduled to start at 1pm, with a catalogue posted online here – Isherwood June 2024.pdf (ccmauctions.com)

Listed are several cows in-calf to the two Shadwell bulls and if not calved by sale day, will have a scanned date announced.
