The Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society is saddened to learn of the passing of Neil Stoddart OBE, a stalwart of the Scottish and UK processing sector and a respected figure within the Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society.

Neil, who was at the helm of the Broxburn-based meat business, AK Stoddart, guided the company through significant growth before retiring in 2015. Post-retirement, Neil embraced his passion for farming, with a particular fondness for the Aberdeen-Angus breed. His dedication to the breed was evident through his active involvement with the Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society, where he was a strong advocate for the breed’s qualities and potential.

Awarded an OBE in 2009 for his ‘distinguished services to the meat industry,’ Neil’s contributions extended far beyond his business. He served on the board of Quality Meat Scotland, played influential roles within Scotland Food & Drink and the Meat & Livestock Commission, and was an esteemed member of the Worshipful Company of Butchers.

Neil’s clear and authoritative voice was always present in discussions about the future of the red meat industry, and his insights will be deeply missed by his peers and friends within the Aberdeen-Angus community. Having been very active in the growth of the Certified Aberdeen-Angus Brand, his legacy within the breed and the wider industry is profound and enduring.

The Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society, along with its members and staff, extends its deepest sympathies to Neil’s wife, Lyndsey, and his entire family during this difficult time.
