It’s been a busy few months for the Society organising the homecoming of the breed at this summer’s World Angus Forum, and the excitement is building now with the official announcement of the final itinerary for the full 17-day event from 16th June to 2nd July 2017.
Delegates and attendees from both the UK and the rest of the world are set to flock to the home of our breed to take part in a full and expansive itinerary of events aimed to educate and inspire, while celebrating the history and delving into what the future holds for the famous Aberdeen-Angus breed. Our president Alex Sanger, Chairman of the World Angus Forum 2017 organising committee, said: ‘’We’ve been working tirelessly behind the scenes, and it’s great to see everything coming together and to have the full itinerary confirmed. We can’t wait to kick off the Forum in the home of this great breed, starting with the English Tour on the 16th June. We’re excited to celebrate the breed in its home, and give our delegates and friends from around the world a great taste of what the UK and Ireland has to offer at the same time’’
Kicking off in England from 16th – 20th June, attendees will visit the Rosemead, Lockerley, Aynho, Aln, Aberton, Nightingale and Tofts Aberdeen-Angus herds. They will also attend the Royal Three Counties Show for the national show of Aberdeen-Angus cattle, one of the main events on the agricultural calendar. The English tour will also see the visitors experience dinner at the historic Exeter College along with a visit to UNESCO world heritage site Stonehenge, which will be a real treat for those traveling to our shores.
Upon finishing the tour of England, the official World Forum secretariat will take place in Edinburgh from 21st – 26th June. This is where delegates will take in the Royal Highland Show and the two-day technical conference, which will look at current trends and hot topics in the beef industry, with an eye to how to create a sustainable and effective beef production operation in the future. There is a chance to see Nikki and George Taylor’s Mosshall Herd, one of the few pure herds of red Aberdeen-Angus in the UK, along with a visit to the beef and sheep research centre at Easter Howgate. There will also be a number of social events, including the Gala Dinner at the National Museum of Scotland and a “Taste of Scotch” at Scotland’s home of rugby, Murrayfield.
The World Angus Forum will then move on to a tour of the East coast of Ireland from 24th – 26th June where attendees will visit the All Ireland Championships at Newry Show, another highly anticipated event on the calendar. They will also visit the Liss and Gigginstown Aberdeen-Angus herds, along with taking in Ireland’s most popular tourist attraction, the historic Guinness Storehouse where they can see exactly how the ‘Black Stuff’ is made.
The final leg of the event is the Scottish tour from 27th June to 2nd July. A selection of Aberdeen-Angus herds with great historical and current importance will be visited, including Ballindalloch and Tillyfour. Delegates will also get a real taste of Scotland at a Highland Dinner and evening of dancing at the MacDonald Aviemore Resort, Cairngorms National Park.
