The terrible news from America last week of seven cowboys and cowgirls losing their lives as they attempted to save their cattle from the massive wildfires engulfing their ranches has shocked the cattle world. Over 1 million acres through the Texas panhandle, Oklahoma, Colorado and Kansas have burned, destroying homes, ranches, and cattle herds. Amongst the many ranchers to have suffered, well known Angus breeders Gardiner Angus Ranch estimate to have lost 500 cows as well as the home of Mark and Eva Gardiner. On behalf of the Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society, we wish to send our condolences and support to those who have lost so much.
