Castlelough Herd on top at the last Irish show of the Summer

09.09.2019

The summer show circuit in Ireland came to an end after a busy few months worth of events at last weekend’s Clonaslee Show. The show is staged near the Laois/Offaly county border with Aberdeen-Angus breeder Mr. Seamus Neary, Kilkenny and pedigree continental breeder Mr. John Searson, Roscrea acting as joint master judges over the day’s proceedings.

The largest class of the day, the junior bull class gave both judges much consternation with very little separating the top placings. After intense deliberation, the red rosette was ultimately awarded to Castlelough Mister Bert U196 from Edward Dudley, Kilsunny Hse, Dovea, Thurles, Co Tipperary with this 11 month old bull going on to be tapped forward as the day’s supreme Aberdeen-Angus breed champion at the end of the show. This one also claimed the 2019 Munster Aberdeen-Angus Junior Bull of the Year title last month and by taking the top spot at Clonaslee succeeded in bringing home championship honours for the Castlelough Aberdeen-Angus herd for the first time since 2016.

Pat Murray, Dunkerrin, Roscrea, Co. Tipperary took the reserve Aberdeen-Angus championship with a very well-developed March 2019 born heifer calf.
