The Angus breed got off to a great start to the show season at the ever popular North Somerset Show this week, when an Angus heifer took Overall Native Champion. “Oakchurch Duchess R212” from Paul & Kirsty Westaways Melview Herd was Female & Breed Champion in the Angus Classes, before beating all comers in the Native Championship. Duchess was purchased as a calf at the Society Sale in Worcester in 2016 by Melview, and was shown with her heifer calf at foot. This stunning heifer is by “Blelack Blackrod L774” and comes from the Duchess cow family that originated from “Southland Duchess 15N”
Taking reserve Championship in the Angus classes was the Hart family with their super 2 year old heifer “Elmview Rosie Lee S216” described by the judge as a “heifer with a great future” Rosie Lee is by MCCLEMENS QUATER MASTER J013 and is from the well know Rosy family at Dark lane.
Overall it was a super show of quality Angus cattle, enriched by some new first time exhibitors with some lovely cattle.
