IMPORTANT CHANGE TO DISPLAY OF PERFORMANCE RECORDING EVALUATION VALUES – Restriction of display of Index Values for Non-Performance Recording Members
Council has debated various issues around the access to valuable performance recording evaluation results for animals and breeders that are not participating in the Performance Recording programme (Breedplan). This has come about primarily because of various incentive schemes available which reward breeders for animals which are above a threshold for various traits or index values. Council considers that access to these incentives without membership of relevant performance recording programme, or input of relevant data to performance recording programme is unfair and devalues animals for which genuine and accurate performance recording analysis exists. To address this issue, Council decided to implement a phased approach to restriction of display of EBV and Index values based on the following criteria and timeline:
Implement initial steps on 1st July 2025, for animals born from 1st January 2025:
Initial Step(s):
- Breeder must be a performance recording member (regardless of current owner)
- Must have had a Birth Weight entered, either estimated or actual.
Implement 1st July 2026:
- All of above and in addition:
- Calving data must have been submitted
Implement 1st July 2027
- All of the above and in addition:
- A weaning weight must have been submitted
In practice this will mean that an animal born into a performance recording member’s herd will maintain display of any EBV trait values, or index values, if, by 1st July 2027, the member remains a performance recording herd, Birth Weights are entered, Calving data are entered, and a weaning weight is entered.
The converse of this however, means that by 1st July 2027, a non-performance recording member, or performance recording member that does not submit a Birth Weight, Calving data and a weaning weight, will have all trait EBVs and Index values restricted from display.
