The Deveron Aberdeen-Angus herd of Hamish and Margaret Sclater, Turriff, Aberdeenshire, have this week announced the private sale of their successful show bull Deveron Leggat P469 to the Tonley herd of Messrs Neil and Mark Wattie, Alford, Aberdeenshire.

Leggat, an April 2014-born son of Deveron Master Banbury L376, is out of Deveron Lady L339, herself a daughter of Blackhaugh Easy Papa G733, making him a three quarter brother to the recently sold Deveron Lookout R504, who is now junior herd sire at the Ballindalloch herd.

A successful show bull, Leggat picked up of a string of championship rosettes on the 2015 winter calf show circuit including the yearling championship at the Winter National Show in Carlisle and had been destined for Stirling in February this year, but sadly suffered an infection prior to sale. He’s since been passed fit by the vet and has been working in the Deveron herd.

Commenting on the purchase, Neil Wattie said: “We’ve admired this bull since he first came out on the show circuit as a calf and were disappointed not to see him make the February bull sales. He’s a well grown bull with fantastic breed character, stretch, natural fleshing ability, coupled with a great set of legs. He’ll no doubt make a great addition to the Tonley herd.”

Leggat carries a positive direct calving ease of +2.8, an eye muscle figure of +5.5, a Terminal Index of +40 and a Self Replacing Index of +60. Some 240 straws of semen have been taken and are available for sale by the Sclater’s.
