The Aberdeen-Angus breed dominated proceedings at the annual multi-breed bull and heifer sales at Carrick-On-Shannon over the weekend.

The overall sale topper across all breeds came from Frank and Margaret McKiernan, Drumcrow, Corlismore, Co. Cavan, with their 12-month old bull Drumcrow Power Punch R603 selling for €5000. This bull is one of the first sons of Netherton Americano M703 to be offered for sale in Ireland and attracted significant interest from both pedigree and commercial producers.

Frank and Margaret McKiernan also sold Drumcrow Pronto P588 for €3200. One of the oldest bulls catalogued for sale on the day, this one is sired by Drumcrow Joker.

Meanwhile, Pat and Finbarr Cahill, Shankill, Cavan, Co. Cavan, received €3100 for Shankill Moorland R115. This January 2015-born bull is by Eastfield Black Buddy K155.

The champion bull, Bunlahy Minto Jimmy, exhibited by Gerard and Helen Reynolds, Ballinalee, Co. Longford, failed to meet his reserve and was unsold on the day. This April 2015-born bull had previously stood overall male champion at the Irish National Aberdeen-Angus calf show last October.

Overall, 39 Aberdeen-Angus bulls sold to an average of €2475 at a clearance rate of 89%.
