Friday update: 13th October 2017

13.10.2017

It might be Friday the 13th, but thankfully it hasn’t been an unlucky week for the Society, with plenty going on and a great first few days of activity surrounding the booking of adverts for the upcoming January 2018 Aberdeen-Angus Review, our landmark 100th Edition! Here is your weekly round-up to make sure no important news has slipped your radar.

The Review:

We were delighted to be able to distribute the advertising booking forms to the membership this week to kick things off with the next edition of the Review. In the first couple of days of activity, we’ve seen a great response from the membership with the advert booking forms coming in thick and fast this far. As would be expected with a publication of this enormity, there were a few questions raised which we wanted to address with the membership, which we hope we managed through the email that was delivered to the full member database this morning. It is very important to us that we offer our members a comprehensive and convenient option that suits their requirements. Should you have any further questions or queries surrounding the booking of adverts, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with Denvir directly – Rob can be contacted on robert@denvirmarketing.com or 01786 435185 and will be happy to help, or see them in person at the Stirling Bull Sales next Monday.

We greatly appreciate how busy you all are, but will be very grateful if forms can be submitted promptly to allow for placement, planning and build of the full magazine. As indicated on the form, there is an opportunity to use Denvir for the full design of an advert from scratch, or you can simply submit your own advert to Denvir as per the specifications sheet which will be provided upon sending in the booking form. Slight amends to existing adverts can also be made by Denvir at an amendment cost starting from £20, which will cover small changes such as photography, small copy amendments or advert re-sizing and will be dealt with on a case by case basis.

Council papers:

As you will now be aware the Council papers are now available for members to access. If you’re interested in potentially joining Council and playing a key part in shaping the future of our great breed, then we look forward to receiving the completed papers with your nominations. This presents a brilliant opportunity to drive the Society forward from a strategic point of view and help us work towards our continuous goal of providing the best possible platform for you, our members.

Youth Development:

We heard from Kathryn Clingen this week, one of our budding young breeders of the future. It was great to catch up with Kathryn and get some insight into her experiences of working with the breed so far, and what her plans are for the future. We also got some insight into her interests and passions outside of the world of cattle – click the link to have a read at what was a really interesting piece: http://aberdeen-angus.co.uk/news/breeder-of-the-future-kathryn-clingen/

We also spoke this week with the overall senior winner of last year’s Youth Development Programme final, Ruth Perry. We heard from Ruth about her upcoming trip to South America, the work she’s currently doing, and her thoughts on the importance of the Youth Development Programme. Ruth even offered up some tips for the other youngsters! You can read Ruth’s piece here: http://aberdeen-angus.co.uk/news/ruth-perry-ydp-2016-senior-champion/

Keep a lookout in this weekend’s edition of the Scottish Farmer, which features a nice write up about the YDP final. You’ll be able to read the piece on page 16, with some great commentary from those involved on the occasion!

Show and sale news:

The Southern England Aberdeen-Angus Autumn Calf Show will be taking place on Friday 27th October at Sedgemoor Auction Centre, Somerset TA6 6DF. You can find out more, including the schedule for the day at: http://aberdeen-angus.co.uk/news/southern-england-aberdeen-angus-autumn-calf-show-27th-october-2017/

We’re looking forward to the Stirling Bull Sales which kick off on the 22nd, with the sale on the 23rd October, featuring the Cheeklaw Herd Dispersal. There will be a great show of cattle as always, and we look forward to seeing many of you there. On the Monday 23rd, our marketing partners at Denvir will be at the Bull Sales where you’ll be able to book and pay for adverts in person, allowing the opportunity to ask any questions that you might have.

We hope you have a great weekend, and look forward to bringing you more news and information next week.
