The Irish Aberdeen-Angus Association is gearing up for another busy Spring sale schedule with several pedigree bull and heifer sales due to take place over the coming weeks.

The first sale of the year will see just over 70 pedigree Aberdeen-Angus bulls go under the hammer at the Midland & Western Livestock Improvement Society Ltd spring sale at Carrick-on-Shannon mart, Carrick-On-Shannon, Co. Leitrim on Saturday, February 10th. Further sales will follow on this venue in Carrick-On-Shannon on Saturday, March 10th, Saturday, April 14th and Saturday, May 19th with both heifers and bulls being offered at the final three sale dates.

The first premier sale of pedigree Aberdeen-Angus bulls in Northern Ireland is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, February 13th at Dungannon Mart, Dungannon, Co. Tyrone. There was a 100% clearance at this sale in 2017 as well as a top price of £6200, which is testament to the high calibre of stock offered for sale at this annual event.

The first of the three Kilkenny bull sales will be held at Cillin Hill, Kilkenny, Co. Kilkenny on Wednesday, March 21st with another two sales scheduled to take place on Wednesday, April 18th and Wednesday, May 16th respectively. One of the premier sale venues in the midlands, record clearances were reported at each of the three sales in 2017.

Pedigree breeders from the West of Ireland see their premier spring sale take place at Ballina, Co. Mayo on Saturday, March 31st with several pedigree Aberdeen-Angus cattle due to be offered for sale.

The annual high health status sale of pedigree Aberdeen-Angus bulls, run by the Munster Aberdeen-Angus Club and Cork Marts, takes place on Wednesday, April 4th. This is the only sale of its kind on the calendar for 2018 and the rigourous pre-sale health requirements include tests for BVD, IBR and Johne’s Disease.

Finally, the year’s Spring sale circuit will come to a climax with the Association’s Premier sale of bulls at Nenagh Mart, Nenagh, Co. Tipperary on Wednesday, May 2nd. This is the flagship event of the Spring sales calendar for the Society and potential customers are asked to please note the change of date from last year’s sale which was held in late March.

As with previous years, there will be many entries of 4 and 5 star replacement and terminal index bulls expected for sale at each of the venues, along with many proven easy calving bloodlines from successful AI bulls and well-known cow families.

For entry forms and catalogues please contact the relevant mart office directly and for all other queries, please get in touch with the Irish Aberdeen-Angus Association office on 071 9632099 and we will endeavor to assist you in your stock bull selection this Spring.
