The Munster Aberdeen-Angus Club open day took place on Sunday, September 11th with a large crowd descending to Castlemartyr, Co. Cork, to visit the Mogeely herd of Albert and Jennifer DeCogan. The 80-cow strong herd looked tremendous in the autumn sunshine and visitors were particularly impressed with quality of the females present, as well as the present herd sire, Wedderlie Blackbox J935, who is coming off a winning streak on the show circuit having just secured back to back championship titles at the National Livestock Show, Tullamore and the All-Ireland Aberdeen-Angus Championships at the Royal Meath Show.
The Munster Aberdeen-Angus club also presented the prizes in the annual herds competition during the open day. David and Penny Evans from the Tree Bridge Aberdeen-Angus herd in Northern England judged the herds competition this year. The judges were incredibly impressed with the quality of stock in the region and complimented the participants in each section.
