The Munster Aberdeen Angus Club held their annual high health status sale of pedigree bulls at Bandon Mart yesterday. Each bull was tested free of BVD, IBR and Johne’s disease and attracted significant interest from the dairy sector.
Topping the trade on the day was Mogeely Toby R357 exhibited by Albert and Jennifer DeCogan, Killamuckey, Castlemartyr, Co. Cork, which sold for €3000. This bull was born in January 2015 and is sired by the hugely successful show bull Wedderlie Blackbox J935 and is out of the homebred dam Mogeely Tilda G947.
Selling for the next best price of €2700 was Moonshine Lord Jake P766 exhibited by Tim O’ Halloran, Templemartin, Co. Cork. This September 2014-born bull is sired by Ankonian Elixir 100 and is out of Cashelane Lady Joy F659.
The Champion bull Inchisine Leo exhibited by Denis O’ Riordan, Macroom, Co. Cork, failed to meet his reserve on the day and remained unsold. The Inchisine herd also claimed the Reserve Champion title in the pre-sale show with Inchisine Lee, which sold for €2620.
Also selling at €2620 was the youngest bull in the entire sale, the 13 month-old Cashelane Sebastian R826, exhibited by the representatives of Robert Putz, Bantry, Co. Cork. This young bull is sired by Cashelane Michael F663.
Overall the sale produced an average of €2525 at a clearance rate of 60%.
