Recently established Aberdeen-Angus breeder Iain Colville of the Glen Cowie herd, Newtownards, Northern Ireland, is pleased to announce the private purchase of Dromore, Co Down-based Trevor Wallace’s Taugh Blane herd.
The herd which consists of 20 cows, heifers and young bulls, includes Croftburn Blackbird H331, a daughter of Coldstream Blackbird by the noted TLA Northern Samurai, which won the female and reserve supreme breed championship at Balmoral Show in 2010.
Also heading to the Glen Cowie herd, which along with Iain is being managed by freelance stockman Gary Hanna, is Old Glenort Victoria P802 and Old Glenort Melanie P163, daughters of The Moss Quebec whose show potential were highlighted with second and third place rosettes in in the highly competitive heifer class at Balmoral Show last year.
Other females currently in situ in the herd are Arms Jackie Erica J508, a Netherallan Paul Pershore E053 daughter who stood second in her class at the All Ireland Championships last year and her calf, Glen Cowie Jackie Erica, by Scotsmill Enigma L073 who was a class winner in the young calf class at the same show.
Adding to them is the recently purchased Belhaven Zephyr L370. This female was purchased at the Stirling Bull Sales earlier this month for 8300gns from Robert Marshall’s dispersal of his Strath Urr herd. Born May 2011, she was the 2015 Great Yorkshire Show champion and is by Muirhall Double Edition E018 and is out of a Belhaven-bred Vermillion Dateline daughter.
Commenting on the purchase Iain Colville said: “I am delighted to be able to add the Taugh Blane herd to the foundation stock I have been purchasing over the last two years. They are excellent cows with great bloodlines and breed character and will no doubt compliment the herd greatly.”
Adding his thoughts, Trevor Wallace said: “I am delighted Iain has purchased the herd in its entirety and I look forward to seeing how he will build on the achievements of the Taugh Blane herd. I wish Iain and the Glen Cowie herd every success in the future.”
