The Aberdeen-Angus Ulster Provincial Trophy was held on Saturday, at the 175^th Omagh Show on what proved to be a very wet morning for showing cattle. Not to be deterred by the downpours there was a good turnout from Aberdeen-Angus enthusiasts to win the coveted trophy. Taking the role of judge for the day was John Henderson from the Ballyheather herd, Strabane.

With the skies clearing for a few moments to allow the overall championship to be judged it was the yearling heifer entry, Birches Lipstick P435, from the Matchett family of Nigel, Gail, Sarah and Sam, who proved victorious in claiming the Ulster Championship title. This heifer is sired by Bunlahy Philip K248 and is out of the herd’s foundation female Drumcrow Lima G266, who was purchased for Sam as his eighth birthday present and is also a dam of a bull standing at Dovea Genetics’ AI Centre. John Henderson described his champion on the day as a correct, balanced heifer that oozed style and presence when parading in the ring. “She is an animal that shows a lot of breed character that will make a great breeding female and a fine example of the Aberdeen Angus breed.”

Following her in to the reserve spot was her older herd mate Birches Lady Holly N391, the winner from the two year old heifer class. This heifer is also by the same sire as the champion and out of the herd’s show cow Mogeely Lady Hilda H967, who herself has had an illustrious show career to date.
