The last seven days have seen plenty happening at the Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society, from the cook-off for our cookery competition to the official announcement of the final itinerary for the World Angus Forum that is now less than a month away! Here’s your weekly news round-up to ensure that nothing has slipped under your radar:
World Angus Forum:
With just under a month to go, we released the official final itinerary for the 2017 World Angus Forum and are very excited for everything to get underway. With national tours of Scotland, England and Ireland, the World Forum in Edinburgh, a fantastic Technical Conference and a very competitive Youth Competition, the Forum is set to be a great success (not to mention the array of social events to enjoy!). You can read about the final itinerary here: http://aberdeen-angus.co.uk/news/excitement-builds-as-the-final-itinerary-is-announced-for-the-world-angus-forum-2017/. It’s still not too late for you to register to attend, whether you’d like to go to individual events or the full Forum, you can select the events to suit you. Visit the World Angus Forum website for the full itinerary and registration information – move fast so to not miss out! – http://worldangusforum2017.com/
We were delighted to hear from James Arnott of the Coul Angus Herd on why he loves the World Angus Forum, and why it is important that we come out in our numbers to attend and make a great success of bringing the Forum to our shores here in the UK, the home of the breed. If you missed it, you can read James’ piece at: http://aberdeen-angus.co.uk/news/world-angus-forums-and-secretariats-what-are-they-about-and-why-should-you-try-and-go-on-them-by-james-arnott/
Youth Development Programme (YDP):
Our fantastic young and aspiring farmers attended another great YDP workshop, this time over the Irish Sea in Trillick at the Lana Herd, the herd of president of the Irish Aberdeen-Angus Association, Alan Cheney. Fifteen year old Matthew Ney was in attendance, and he very kindly gave us his take on the workshop: http://aberdeen-angus.co.uk/news/youth-development-programme-workshop-comes-to-trillick-in-ireland/
We also held the cook-off for our cookery competition at Braehead Foods on the 16th May, which saw some young ambitious chefs competing for the chance to make it to the final and cook at the Gala Dinner during the World Angus Forum. We’ll be bringing you a full report of what happened at the cook-off next week, so be sure to look out for that!
Breeder/Herd profiles:
We shared a great herd profile from Andrew and Sarah Shufflebotham of the Cheerbrook Angus Herd. It was great to hear from them on their work, our breed and what the future holds. If you missed this, be sure to have a read at: http://aberdeen-angus.co.uk/news/herd-profile-cheerbrook-angus-andrew-and-sarah-shufflebotham/
Next week, we’ll be bringing you a piece about the Haymount Herd which Tom Arnott kindly helped us put together. The Haymount Herd is one which will be visited during the World Angus Forum, so we look forward to giving you an insight into what to expect!
