Munster Aberdeen-Angus Club Open Day

Munster Aberdeen-Angus Club Open Day

30.08.2019

The Munster Aberdeen-Angus Club will host an open day on the farm of Eustace & Deirdre Burke, Ballyginnane, Carrigaline, Co Cork on Sunday, September 22nd at 2pm.

The Clontead Aberdeen-Angus herd was established in 2003 and has developed into one of the leading forces on the pedigree circuit over the intervening 16 years with the herd’s crowing achievement to date, winning the All-Ireland Aberdeen-Angus championship with Shankill Lady Helton J049 in 2015. More recently, the herd has secured the 2017 Munster Aberdeen-Angus Junior Female of the Year with Clontead Patriot S218 and the reserve junior female championship at the Angus Beef Ireland junior championship in Tullamore with Clontead Pamela S214 also in 2017, as well as taking home two 2nd prizes with Clontead Lady Hotshot T243 and Clontead Pamela U265 at the most recent All-Ireland Aberdeen-Angus Championships held just a few days ago in Dualla.  As well as the show ring success at Clontead, the herd also uses a lot of AI each season and the event offers a unique opportunity to see progeny of some of the most exciting AI bulls available presently.

The Open Day will also play host to the prize-giving of the annual Munster Aberdeen-Angus herds competition that runs from September 19th – 22nd. The categories for this year’s herds competition are as follows: under 10 calves registered 01.09.2018 – 31.08.2019 (small), 10 – 25 calves registered 01.09.2018 – 31.08.2019 (medium) and over 25 calves registered 01.09.2018 – 31.08.2019 (large). Over 50% of the calves in the herd must be registered with the Irish Aberdeen-Angus Association unless the herd is entered in the new entrant section. Animals eligible to win individual awards must be registered with the Irish Aberdeen-Angus Association and all stock bulls must have progeny on the ground in order to compete in the stock bull category. All participants must also be members of the Munster Aberdeen-Angus Club and entries for this year’s herds competition close on Friday, September 6th. To enter please contact club secretary, Edward Dudley on 086 3559210 or email kilsunnyherd@gmail.com as soon as possible.

As well as the herds competition results, an open stock-judging competition will be run on the day with top prizes on offer for the eventual winners. Admission is free and refreshments will be provided on site. The farm will be signposted from both Riverstick and Carrigaline on the day.
