A small entry of Aberdeen Angus bulls sold to a top of 5,800gns at the annual autumn Native Breeds Show and Sale, held at Dungannon Farmers’ Mart.

Claiming the breed championship and a top bid of 5,800gns was Drumhill Lord Hearttrob B421 TSI+43 SRI+55, bred by Jonathan and Lisa Doyle from Cookstown.

This eighteen-month-old bull was sired by the home-bred Drumhill Evo W757, and is out of Drumhill Lady Heather W761 – one of 60 cows in the herd. He sold for export to Donogh McCarthy’s Lemonfield Aberdeen Angus Herd based at Orchard House, Crecora, County Limerick.

Judge Clive Richardson from Annaghmore awarded the reserve championship ribbons to Coltrim Prince B731 TSI-35 SRI+46, bred by Ivan Forsythe, Moneymore.

Sired by the herd’s stock bull, Island Farm Master Missie X854, he is out of the home-bred Coltrim Princess W327. This eighteen-month-old bull came under the hammer of auctioneer Trevor Wylie at 3,800gns, selling to Trevor Irwin from Stewartstown.

The next event in the Northern Ireland Aberdeen Angus Club’s calendar is the inaugural Calf Show and Sale, taking place at Ballymena Livestock Market on Saturday, 14th November.

“Excitement is building ahead of the ‘new look’ event,” said club chairman Caolan McBrien. We are looking forward to welcoming this year’s judge, Hamish Sclater from the noted Deveron Herd based at Turriff in Aberdeenshire.”

Members are reminded that there is still time to enter for the annual calf show which includes three classes for young handlers and 13 classes for yearling bulls and heifers, senior, intermediate, junior and baby 2026-born calves, and a pair of calves owned by exhibitor.

Entry forms and schedules are available from club secretary Cathy O’Hara, mobile 07968 868001, or email: granagh@btinternet.com. The closing date for entries is Friday, 30th October.
