The Aberdeen-Angus Spring Show and Sale at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, saw an 89% clearance of bulls, with 40 selling to average £6,294 and a top price of 13,000gns. The female section achieved a 100% clearance, with three females averaging £3,675 and topping at 4,000gns.

Leading the day’s trade at 13,000gns was Tonley Mr Bongobingo B263 from Neil and Mark Wattie, Alford. Tonley Mr Bongobingo B263 has a Terminal Sire Index (TSI) of +52 and a Self-Replacing Index (SRI) of +60. The 13-month-old Tonley Endgame X809 son is out of Blelack Miss Bangle L753, a daughter of Blelack Equity, and was purchased by JM and LM Forbes, Lochdhu, Nairn.

The second highest price of 11,000gns was Duncanziemere Eddie B608 from Alistair Clark and Sons, Cumnock. Sired by Hillfoots Eldorado Y013 and out of Duncanziemere Ellen Erica Z536, the March 2025-born bull sold to Ross Farms, Gorebridge, Midlothian.

Two bulls realised 10,000gns. Cardona Jewel Eric A633 from Robbie Galloway, Doune, a son of Rulesmains Kai V226 out of Cardona Jewel Erica W161 with a TSI of +45 and SRI of +65, sold to Messrs Charleton, Kirkwhelpington, Northumberland.

Matching that price was Retties Looney Tunes B363 with a TSI of +53 and SRI of +66 from Richard and Carol Rettie, Slamannan. The Tonley Ronald X800 son, out of Retties Lady Ruth U009, was purchased by David Ralston, Castlehill, Torrance.

Further trade included 9,000gns for Duncanziemere Eric B604, another Hillfoots Eldorado Y013 son from the Clark family, out of Duncanziemere Ellen Erica X455, which sold to Jim Ford, Kelso. Also at 9,000gns was Falnash Euro B561 from Lisa Fleming, Hawick. Sired by Gretnahouse Egbert Z489 and out of Mosston Muir Erica Y438, he sold to Tullie Farming, Hawick.

The Wattie family also sold Tonley Albie A212, a Gretnahouse Krack Light W221 son out of Tonley Annie Y952, for 7,500gns to Messrs Gray, Whittingham, Alnwick.

Three further bulls sold at 7,000gns. Vexour Prince Caspian A912 from Jan Boomaars, by Gordon Ellanin X639 and out of Vexour Princess Carry X388, sold to Messrs McCombie, Knock, Huntly. Massies Black Magic A012 from G. Massie, a son of Fordel Ma Puma V521, was purchased by Messrs Thompson, Masham, Ripon, while Wensleydale Kaptain A265 from Christopher Timm sold to Messrs Gallacher, Sanquhar, Dumfriesshire.

In the female section, Tonley Ester A245 and Tonley Emily A246 from Neil and Mark Wattie both sold for the section-leading price of 4,000gns. Both daughters of Inkstack Frontier V860 sold to Grahamslaw Farming Partnership, Kelso.

In the pre-sale show, judge Caroline Morton of the Keirsbeath Herd awarded the Overall Championship to Retties Looney Tunes B363 from Richard and Carol Rettie, Slamannan. The Tonley Ronald X800 son had earlier secured the Senior Male Championship before going on to sell for 10,000gns. Reserve Overall Champion honours went to Oak Moor King B815 from Miss MV Guttery and Mr Tom Slater.
