Holly Howe Angus was started in 2011 with the aim of breeding easy calving, easy fleshing, low input cattle with good temperaments and good confirmation. We are focusing on eating quality and ease of management breeding a medium sized ( 650-700kg cow) which will fatten off low input grassland to produce high quality beef for our farm shop and restaurant.

Our better pasture and mowing land is around 500ft above sea level with most of the summer grazing around 800-1200 ft.

Whilst not certified organic we have not applied any artificial fertiliser for the last 7 years and there are no concentrates fed.

We aim to calve in April and May turning the calves out with their mothers to grass once tagged between 1 day and 1 week old weather dependant.

They are brought inside October / November and fed big bale silage on an ad lib basis, usually weaned in January.

Foundation stock came from a variety of sources Weeton, Ribble, Aln, and Fordel lines now make up the majority of our herd.

We have been building the herd for the last 15 years and are now at a stage where we can offer both males and females for sale.

We are not in a health scheme but we are fortunate to have no immediate neighbours keeping cattle. We test a sample ( approx 10) every year for IBR, JOHNES, LEPTO and BVD and have tested negative for all for the last 5 years.
