Frequently Asked Questions - Registrations & Transfers

All calves should be Registered or Intimated within 60 days of Birth

Intimated calves, should you wish to upgrade to a full registration must be completed within 6 Months of the Date of Birth of the animal.

Animals can be registered up to years of age, with accompanied late fees applied each year. A list of late fees can be found on our website under ‘Fees & Charges’

An Intimation is a birth notification of a live calf (or a dead calf). You do not give the animal a name, or pay any fee to enter it.

This could be for a number of reasons:

  1. You would like to wait and see how the animal turns out before paying a registration fee for it.
  2. You are not planning to register the calf at any point but you would like to keep the dams calving record accurate.

Intimated calves must still be entered within 60 days of birth. You then have 6 months from the animals date of birth to decide whether to register the calf for the normal registration fee (£30).

ALL calves, male or female, must be named after the family of the dam.

Formatting of names:

[PREFIX] [INDIVIDUAL NAME] [SUFFIX (Year letter and last 3 digits of individual tag number)]

PEDIGREE HOUSE (prefix) ELIZA (individual name) C123 (year letter C for 2026, last 3 digits of tag)

Example: If the dam is called PEDIGREE HOUSE ELIZA C123, her calf must begin with the letter E.

A full list of the Family Name Codes can be requested by the team at Pedigree House – please email sarah@aberdeen-angus.co.uk

Each letter represents the year the animal was born.

A: 2024

B: 2025

C: 2026

D: 2027

The year letter should NOT be used to name the calf. It sits as a suffix at the end of the animals name to represent its year of birth, along with the last 3 digits of the animals individual tag number.

RED calves follow the same process as a BLACK calf. If the animal is RED, you must include the word RED in the animals name, this follows after the PREFIX and before the animals INDIVIDUAL NAME.

E.g. PEDIGREE HOUSE RED ELIZA C123

ALL Embryo Calves must be tested at birth. Please provide a DNA Tissue sample, (or a Hair Sample) for testing.

When completing the registration for an Embryo calf, please select ‘By ET‘ and provide the following:

  1. Ear tag number of Donor Dam
  2. Date of Birth of Donor Dam
  3. Breed of Donor Dam

*Please ensure BEFORE flushing a female that she has been DNA Profiled.

When registering/intimating a calf by an AI sire, please select ‘By AI’ and click yes, and provide the date the dam was AI’d.

QUERY animal is an animal on hold pending more information. If you get a query animal back, please review the additional information required, and contact the office to resolve.

At the moment there is not an option online to kill an animal off. If you have sold an animal for breeding/sold for slaughter/it has died etc, you must contact the office with the full UK tag number of the animal, and we will update the status for you.

A Native Aberdeen-Angus is an animal bred from genetics that have NOT been imported to the UK. All native animals are marked as native on the database and can be searched using the Animal Enquiries tab.
