RUBY ANNIVERSARY TOUR

“Early bird” bookings for the club’s Ruby Anniversary tour are beginning to trickle in with firm bookings from England, Wales and Ireland and enquiries so far from Canada, New Zealand, Germany, Denmark and Estonia.

The tour will take place over the week-end of Thursday, October 4 to Monday, October 8, and will take in visits to 16 leading herds in the North-east of Scotland.

There’s plenty of time – deadline for bookings is May 31 – but early booking is strongly advised to ensure accommodation in the Thistle Aberdeen Airport Hotel where the tour will be headquartered.

Full details of the tour programme, which includes a booking form, can be accessed on the web site or e-mail Eddie Gillanders at eddie.gillanders@btopenworld.com who will be pleased to mail out a programme to you. However, all members should have received a programme with the Review.

An optional alternative programme is being developed for ladies who may not want to spend the whole week-end viewing cattle. Details later.

We have also secured a major sponsor (to be announced shortly) which will enable us to add a number of “extras” to make it an even more exciting and fun-filled week-end.

Make sure you are there! It will be a week-end not to be missed! Keep an eye on this web site in the coming months for updates to the programme.

RUBY ANNIVERSARY SALE

A feature of the Ruby Anniversary week-end will be a sale of select Aberdeen-Angus females of all ages which will be conducted by Aberdeen and Northern Marts at Thainstone Centre, Inverurie, on the afternoon of Saturday, October 6.

Please note that this sale is open, subject to veterinary conditions, to herds from throughout the UK and Ireland and is not restricted to herds from within the club area.

Entry is limited to three entries per herd and all entries will be subject to on-farm inspection to ensure a high standard.

Please advise Eddie Gillanders at eddie.gillanders@btopenworld.com if you wish to have cattle considered for this sale.

HERD BOOK ANNIVERSARY

Next year is the 150th anniversary of the publication of Volume 1 of what was then the Polled Cattle Herd Book and, at the request of the Society, a celebration of this important milestone in the breed’s history has been incorporated into the Ruby Anniversary tour programme. This will include the unveiling of a plaque on the morning of Friday, October 5, at the building in Banff which housed the Society’s first office. More details later.

PHILIP STRATHDEE

Congratulations to Philip Strathdee who will be making a visit to New Zealand later this year following his success in winning the senior award  at the finals of the Youth Development Programme in Ireland. Philip has been a keen participant in the YDP for many years and his success is well deserved. He has been a member of the club since he was a boy and represents junior members on the club committee.
