The Connaught/Leinster Aberdeen-Angus Club have finalised their schedule of events for the upcoming summer season with several new initiatives confirmed for 2019.
The newly launched Connaught/Leinster Aberdeen-Angus calf championships kick off at Fingal Show, Co Dublin on Saturday, June 29th. This competition will be decided on a points basis with points accumulated at several shows in the region with the finals taking place at Trim Show on Sunday, September 1st.
Another new event for 2019 is the club’s open day, which will take place at the farm of Malachy Tighe, Batterstown, Dunboyne, Co Meath on Sunday, June 30th. Malachy operates the well-known Tara Aberdeen-Angus herd and anyone with an interest in top quality Aberdeen-Angus cattle is most welcome to attend on the day.
The Youth Development Programme will once again have a presence in the Connaught/Leinster region with workshops being held on the farm of John & Sean McEnroe, Liss, Oldcastle, Co Meath (June 29th) and Mack Crowe & Kathryn Bradshaw, Broomstreet, Mohill, Co Leitrim (late July, date to be confirmed). All young people aged between 8 – 24 years are invited to attend and it’s also worth noting that youngsters involved in other breeds and with little or no showing experience are all very, very welcome to participate.
The annual Connaught/Leinster herds competition is also returning for 2019 and this year’s competition will run from 13th – 15th September inclusive with several prizes and awards on offer. Entries will be taken over the summer and all interested parties should make themselves known to the club officers at their earliest convenience.
