The Aberdeen-Angus breed enjoyed an outstanding day at the Royal Highland Show, with the Foxhill team of Melanie and Michael Alford, Devon, claiming the coveted Overall Interbreed Beef Supreme Championship with Wensleydale Black Voltage Y140. The victory marked another memorable achievement for the Foxhill team, who enjoyed an exceptional day in the Aberdeen-Angus show ring.
The Aberdeen-Angus classes were expertly judged by Tom Arnott of the Haymount Herd, Kelso, Roxburghshire, before the interbreed championship was judged by Dave Murray of Wolflaw, Forfar, who selected Wensleydale Black Voltage Y140 as his Overall Beef Supreme Champion from an exceptional line-up of cattle.
Wensleydale Black Voltage Y140, bred by Christopher Timm of the Wensleydale Herd, is sired by Gretnahouse Blackboot V082 and out of Wensleydale Black Vision V148. In addition to being crowned Aberdeen-Angus Champion and Overall Interbreed Beef Supreme Champion, he also claimed Best Bull (born on or after 1 January 2022) and the Ballindalloch Challenge Cup.
The Foxhill team’s success extended into the female section, with Blelack Princess Carina X125 securing Best Cow, Best Female and Reserve Overall Champion. Sired by Kilmaluag Eriskay T203 and out of Blelack Princess Carina U902, the May 2021-born cow continued her outstanding run of form with another impressive performance at the Royal Highland Show.
Adding to the family’s success, Foxhill Princess Caroline A265, sired by Kilmaluag Eriskay T203 and out of Blelack Princess Caroline T867, secured Reserve Cow and Reserve Female.
The Alford family rounded off an exceptional day by winning Best Pair, Best Group and the Native Interbreed Team Championship.
Best Junior Female and Best Junior Animal went to Robert Marshall with Tonley Princess A209. This June 2024-born heifer is sired by Kilmaluag Eriskay T203 and out of Tonley Princess W756.
Reserve Junior Female went to William Joel Ashworth with Blackrodian Kristina B267. Born in February 2025, she is sired by Retties Lord Lucas Y277 and out of Morpheus Kit W069.
Reserve Junior Bull was awarded to Caroline Morton with Keirsbeath Prescot B613. The February 2025-born bull is sired by Kilmallie Juggernaut Eric Y389 and out of Keirsbeath Pamela S542.
Reserve Bull honours went to Martin McCornick with McCornick Playboy A186. Sired by Blelack Prince Carnegie X126 and out of McCornick Pam V648, the May 2024-born bull rounded off another successful Royal Highland Show, also securing best animal bred by exhibitor.
The Royal Highland Show once again provided a fantastic showcase for the Aberdeen-Angus breed, with exhibitors from across the UK presenting cattle of the highest standard.
