The Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society’s 150 & Beyond Grand Prix attracted an entry of more than 70 Aberdeen-Angus cattle at Grantown Show on Thursday 13th August, as part of the Society’s celebrations marking the 150th edition of the Aberdeen-Angus Herd Book.

Mr Alistair Cormack, Leven, Fife, had the task of judging the Aberdeen-Angus classes at Grantown-on-Spey, with exhibitors travelling from across the country to take part in the Grand Prix.

Taking the Overall Championship was the December 2022-born Wensleydale Black Voltage Y140 from Michael and Melanie Alford, Foxhill Farm, Devon. Bred by Chris Timm of the Wensleydale Herd,  Black Voltage Y140 has enjoyed an exceptional show season, he is by Gretnahouse Blackboot V082 and out of Wensleydale Black Vision V148. He first secured the Male Championship before going on to take the Overall Championship and the special 150 & Beyond commemorative trophy presented by the Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society.

Taking the Reserve Overall Championship was Female Champion Perkhill Black Midday X344 from Alex and Philippa Davie. Born in March 2021, Perkhill Black Midday X344 is by Perkhill Charlie Brown U302 and out of Perkhill Black Midday T280. Her January-born bull calf, Perkhill Black Midas C445, also won the Bull Calf class. Black Midas is by Blelack Hill Prospero Z032.

Taking the Reserve Female Championship was Blelack Princess Carina X125 from Michael and Melanie Alford, Foxhill Farm, Devon. Born in May 2021, she is by Kilmaluag Eriskay T203 and out of Blelack Princess Carina U902.

In the male section, Reserve Male Champion was Rosemead January W189 from Ballindalloch Home Farms. Born in January 2020, he is by Lockerley Black Boromir K173 and out of Rosemead Jessica R652.

The Junior Male Championship went to Logie Lochnagar B757 from Messrs William Robertson & Son. The April 2025-born bull is by Blelack Equinox X115 and out of Logie Lucy V944. Taking the Reserve Junior Male Championship was Caroline Morton’s Keirsbeath Prescot B613, by Kilmallie Juggernaut Eric Y389 and out of Keirsbeath Pamela S542.

Among the younger females, Galcantray Edwina A764 from David Walker was named Best Two-Year-Old Female, with Newton Jill Erica A175 from Ray Gardiner standing Reserve. Best One-Year-Old Female went to Alfie Cheyne’s Logie Lavender B711, while David Walker’s Galcantray Miss Jolte B891 took the Reserve award.

Perkhill Black Midas C445 secured the Champion Calf title, with Reserve Champion Calf going to Foxhill Princess Carina C204 from Michael and Melanie Alford.
