This will be an interactive online event for farmers, farming industry, researchers , advisors and anyone interested in genetics and farm animal breeding.
It brings together the findings from a year long industry-academic collaboration where we aimed to co-design the ‘best’ breeding strategies for beef and sheep that contribute to net zero, are cost effective and practical to implement, good for animal welfare and farmer wellbeing! We held workshops in each devolved nation to understand what breeding strategies already existed and how industry felt about them, and then reviewed the published literature to understand their relative merits. We worked closely with a select number of case farms to calculate the cost-benefits of certain breeding approaches using real farm data, and now this workshop is a chance to hear what we found and select the ‘winning’ approach for breeding beef and sheep in the UK.
